“Do you speak for everyone?” “I speak for myself.” Royal, Chas, The Royal Tenenbaums
Yesterday I stopped by Project to visit Carlos and Lalls, and Spring Summer 13. Which looks fab. Carlos is like the Cholo renegade in a time of post-industrial Americana revival. With a totally chic color palette that’s Jill Sander meets The Royal Tenebaums, SS13 is smart, clean and refined. It’s Connecticut not California; old money, not new. His specs are spot on and I’m obsessed with at least five jackets every season. He’s a total fabric fanatic and they’re always flawless. In this dichotomitic and polarized world of men’s fashion it’s refreshing to see a collection so self assured in its constructive and creative integrity.
As a trade show Project had a really great vibe– Barber station, Tequila bar and the hottest fucking guys I’ve ever seen in one place (aside from Fashion Week). They’re all about the “Democratization of Fashion,” which although talks of the evolution of fashion as an industry, communicates loud and clear to my ear, the freedom of choice to look your best at all times. duh.
