Come Again?

“I can’t even speak right now.” Cara Delevingne

It’s been a really wonky few weeks… I mean I just used the word wonky for fuck sake. Who am I? Who are you? And what the fuck are these?

iPad mini?
Mercedes mini vans?
Electric holiday?
The mustache thing?
Doutzen Kroes’ husband?
Lindsay Lohan’s face?
Lindsay Lohan’s life?
Lindsay Lohan’s death?
Christmas?
New Years?
The Middle East?
Charlie Hunnam?
Heath Ledger’s death?
Your wedding dress?
Babies?
Blogs?
Maccaroons?
Karlie Kloss?

Unclear. That’s what.

Is the Sea Bass Smelly?

Okay so there is major sickness happening at Barneys right now. Fish. Factories. 500′s. Another Loubi display and I’m not sure why– but it’s amazing.

After All that We’ve Been Through– It All Comes Down to Me and You.

Alber Elbaz gets me in a way that only Karl, John and Miuccia do. Oh, and Paris and Elle, and Babe and Shelley too. Okay, so a lot of people get me these days but still, Alber and I are like twins separated at chic birth– united through voguish telepathy. The Field of Dreams of fashion and what not– all I do is dream it and sure enough it comes to his runway next season.

In honor of his other special relationship, with Lanvin of course, Barneys is celebrating a decade of his couture craftsmanship:

5 for 5,000

In honor of Sick City Window’s major milestone of reaching over 5,000 all time views (1,250 monthly unique visitors) I am counting down the top five windows in SCW history!

Thank you to everyone has looked, commented and followed my blog, without you this milestone might never have happened! Choosing just 5 was no easy feat, I think all of the windows featured on SCW are the sickkest, but nevertheless here goes…

5. Kleinfeld

A Gentile in the Midst of a very Jewish neighborhood- One small stride for non Christmas celebrating peoples everywhere.

4. Fendi

Artsy Barbies & Ken- an artistic display which incited a discourse in the function of fashion.

3. Miu Miu

11/6/11Mwa Mwa- thought provoking and mesmeric, a look deeper at all of the parts that make up the whole of one’s beauty!

2. Bergdorf Goodman

You Ain’t Nothin’ but a Chicken Head?- one of the many disco balls to grace SCW, but the only one to include with it a chicken head!

1. Barneys

The Windows are Here The Windows are Here- the Lady Gaga inspired budoir made entirely of hair, showcasing her place as Barneys mane girl!

So what do you think- were these the top 5 on your list???

I Just Came to Wave Hello…

 Prada

 Mark Cross

 Yves Saint Laurent

 Proenza Schouler

The Windows are Here. The Windows are Here.

Musical.
Gaga’s Crystal Cave not only defies convention, but New York City noise ordinances, as “Marry the Night” blasts through the streets. (I would add my personal video but to do so I need the upgrade & until I have some people willing to advertise on my blog, you will just have to click here, skip to 9 min in, & imagine the scene)

Mobile.
The “Gagamachine” with its spinning wheels and killer heels.

Hairy.
One would imagine a bedroom of any sort to contain within it a bit of hair, but Gaga’s Budoir is something else entirely! And, it is made entirely of hair. You could say that Lady Gaga really is Barneys mane girl.

My Night with Gaga.

Now I know it has been a few weeks, and all of the other editors have written schpiels about their night with Gaga, but give me a break, it is their full time job, and blogging is in addition to mine! But in all seriousness the real reason for the lapse is that I finally have the time to penn down one of the greatest experiences in visual merchandising history (or at the very least, in the history of this blog!)

But before we get to the windows though, my night with Gaga begins…

After meeting with my bestie on 60th, at Barneys’ side entrance, where fans and press had been camped out for hours, I resided myself to the fact that, well, at 5’3” I just wasn’t going to see the pop icon; basking in her presence would have to be enough. But as they say, good things come to, well Kirk and I, and right before Gaga arrived, the barricades were moved, and we found ourselves front row for the ribbon cutting! I have to say that as a child of the 90′s, you would think I would have found myself in the middle of a group of screaming teens at an N’sync concert, and not on the eve of my twenty fifth birthday. But there we were, front row when she arrived. Some cried, more screamed, many pushed; and then it was over. Appearing before the crowd in a custom Karl Lagerfeld frock, the likes of a woman in the Rococo era, it was in those three brief minutes I was bitten by the Gaga bug!

After the ribbon cutting, we perused the windows and headed inside for the workshop. Unfortunately we didn’t exactly make it as planned, becoming sidetracked by the open bar and cute cater waiters pouring out cotton candy champagne shots. In Gaga fashion endless trays of mini tye-dye donuts, jello sticks, & sorbet cones were passed around while the guests danced in the warmth of the “come as you are” vibe. The party was undeniably devoid of pretention, abandon, and care; exactly how one would imagine a Lady Gaga soiree! Guests sported workshop purchases on their heads, bags on their arms, and who would have guessed that by midnight it would have to be restocked for the eager fans waiting outside.

As the night waned, we said our goodbyes, headed outside and caught up with DJ, style icon, and best friend to Gaga, Lady Starlight! And after sharing our musical praises (Starlight dj’ed the after party), she disappeared into the night in an unmarked black SUV, much like Lady Gaga did earlier.

All in all, it was an amazing night and wonderful collaboration in fashion, art, & music history.

Thank you to everyone involved that made the special event & even more spectacular windows possible!!!
